Greetings from the Port Orford Library. I wanted to share an email that I just received:
David and Chiva,
I am probably one of the only people who can appreciate what you just accomplished by riding from the Willamette Valley to the coast via the route you chose!!! If you received my phone messages it was obvious that I was concerned that you would be able to make it over the multiple steep climbs and descents and stay on schedule. I was concerned enough yesterday that I jumped in my car and drove out Wolf Creek past where you camped and up to the top of second major climb. Didn't see you so I figured you were either fully committed or had taken another route.
Sitting here in front of my computer looking at your accomplishments it is hard to imagine the effort and focus required to get where you are now. Even when I followed your route virtually on Google Earth I can't really appreciate how it must have felt hour after hour of climbing around the bend only to see another 1/4 mile of climbing. Kind of like climbing a mountain via a ridge route, Eh?
Well at least the weather is now co-operating. I'll continue to follow you, so keep on trucking. Won't expect you back in Eugene or Oregon for at least 13 months, but if you do come back this way let me know.
Good luck, take care of Chiva, and have a wonderful adventure!!!!
Dan Wirth
Thank you for your email and concern, Dan! The ride was beautiful and definitely a challenge (physically and route-finding). I plan to add pictures and stories over the next couple of days. Time to get back on the road and take advantage of the sunshine!

David and Chiva are taking a break from the Tour de Dog but are sure to plan another ride in the near future. A sincere thank you to all of you who helped David and Chiva in countless ways. The Tour de Dog would not be possible without your support. THANK YOU!

Way to get through the middle of no where! I was thinking the same thing as Dan, although I had faith you would get though. ;-)
