Summary of the Outdoor Retailer Conference

The Outdoor Retailer Conference was a huge success. I acquired needed equipment, took in great suggestions, and made key contacts. A personal highlight was attending a Dr. John Francis presentation. Dr. Francis (aka Planetwalker) is an environmental activist who for twenty-two years did not use a motorized vehicle and walked the world to demonstrate his personal commitment to creating a sustainable world. He also did not talk to anyone for seventeen years. After his pilgrimage, he started a non-profit organization (http://www.planetwalk.org/) dedicated to raising environmental consciousness and promoting earth stewardship. A lot can be learned from this man so I encourage you to look into his story.

I would like to thank many individuals and companies at OR for supporting my trek. Jen Fox and Scott Brown did an outstanding job designing the official Chiva the Canine Cyclist logo and were instrumental in making my business cards and brochures. A special thank you to the Ruff Wear Team for getting me a pass to attend the conference. Ruff Wear is becoming more and more involved with the trek which is more than welcomed. Roy Bastien and Anne Linscott made sure I was entertained and well fed! Erica Kuly and Tiffany Barnes were extremely supportive and deserve big props.
